It is a well-known fact that the era of the Samurai was a legendary period in the rich history of ancient Japanese culture. Ancient Japan was well-known for their swords, samurais, and the armor they use in battle. This also takes into account the headgear that the samurais used together with that armor. The helmet used with traditional Japanese armor worn by samurai is known as the “kabuto”. It features a strong bowl, or the "hachi", which protects the crown of the head. It also features a suspended series of articulated metal plates riveted together to protect the neck known as the "shikoro" and more often than not, is adorned with insignias of the clan from which the samurai belongs to.
One can easily understand what all this means in if they have seen the movie ‘The Last Samurai’ which gave a closer look to the ancient culture of the samurais. These days, the samurai helmet is considered a form of art due to its elaborate designs and construction mainly due to the ceremonial functions which is commonplace in Japanese culture. DungeonKnight is also proud to offer a variety of Japanese helmet replicas for all the avid collectors and historians to add to their collection.
