Samuel Colt, who produced the first revolver back in 1837, may be considered as the father of the modern handgun. But Colt’s .36 caliber, 5-shot models and were no match in firepower compared to the then official military sidearm- the .54 caliber smoothbore Model 1836 Flintlock Pistol. Everything changed in 1847 when Colt began producing the famous "Walker" Colt Pistols. Its production signaled the domination of larger bore revolvers in the late 1840's. These .44 caliber behemoths carried 9-inch barrels and 6-shots, and helped provide the income for Colt to reorganize from bankruptcy and prosper. When Civil War broke out in 1860, Colt’s patented revolver became the firearm of choice by the military. Many different pistols, and revolvers or handguns as they were called at the time, were used throughout the civil war by both the North and the South. Sometimes the exact same model and version of a handgun would be used by both sides, or the handgun would be built to specifications set forth by the respective faction. Lucky for you DungeonKnight carries detailed replicas of those classic Civil War pistols in our collection. Choose from the various designs from different manufacturers such as Cogswell, Grisworld & Gunnison, and Le Mat. Know that whatever Civil War pistol model you end up with, you will get endless satisfaction and proud ownership with it.
